Summer Vacay at the Cape

We took a detour in between rubber stamp shows to take a mini vacation to Cape Cod. Jeff drove the bus as far as the roads would go, and I can tell you firsthand that the "sandy fist" of the Cape is very sandy indeed. We decided to go to the ocean during low tide to look for seashells and other treasures left as the water retreated. We stopped at _______ Beach and took a walk along the shore. There was a lot of seaweed, rocks and shells to explore. The water was a bit cold (we expected that with the Atlantic) but we still got our feet wet. The weather was great not too hot or windy.

While exploring the shore, we met a guy with a summer house in the Brewster area and he told us of a great bay to take the kids to so that became our next stop. The bay was pretty deserted (this was just the very beginning of summer, before all the tourists arrived) so we checked out the shoreline and noticed some differences in the sand along with a warmer temperature of water.

We waded out to a few of the "islands" that had appeared as the waves moved out, but our arrival time coincided with the tide coming back in. The islands we were inhabiting slowly began to disappear as the water rushed back to them (along with some nasty looking seaweed...I don't like slimy things!)

First Field Trip of 2010 - to Gettysburg

Artillery Ridge
This is the campground we stayed at in Gettysburg. We were parked way in the back, past the riding stables. There were horses out in the corrals by our site and we got to see a few up close.

Today we saw the world's largest diaorama of the war held July 1-July 3, 1863 in Gettysburg, PA. Over 51,000 Americans were killed, wounded or missing in action.

We walked by Jennie Wade's house (or more acurately her sister's house, but the one made famous by her tragic death. Chase became fascinated with the story of Jennie Wade, so we researched it online and saw photos along with an explanation of how the events unfolded.

I'm looking out at the expanse of rolling Amish farmland in Pennsylvania. Harvest season has begun, and we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the corn being harvested when we stopped near Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster.
